Introducing the Scottish Borders Youth Brass Band
Since its founding in 2009, the Scottish Borders Youth Brass Band has become one of the country’s leading youth ensembles. The Band has won the Scottish Youth Brass Band Championships six times – a testament to the hard work and dedication of its members. In 2017, the SBYBB proudly represented Scotland at the European Youth Brass Band Championships held in Belgium, a major milestone and source of pride for everyone involved.
SBYBB is made up of young brass and percussion players from all over the Scottish Borders. SBYBB comes together at the Brass and Percussion Workshops under the highest tutelage of conductors from around the country. They also compete in the yearly Scottish Championships held in November in Perth. Their resident conductor is Mr. Stuart Black.
The Scottish Borders Brass Band Association’s (SBBBA) Youth Development Programme continues to provide young brass and percussion players throughout the Scottish Borders with fantastic opportunities to develop their skills and passion. A highlight twice per year, in March and September is when the SBBBA hosts a one-day Brass and Percussion Workshop that brings together young musicians at all levels – from beginners just starting out to the regions’ most advanced young players. At every Workshop, the Association strives to expose the young players to conductors they may not know or have the opportunity to play under.
In addition, the Scottish Borders Brass Band Association (SBBBA) organizes a number of other events throughout the year with the Borders. In November of every year, they host the Borders Entertainment Contest, encouraging bands from throughout Scotland to compete against each other. They are also proud to host a further two events – the Borders Youth Solo and Ensemble Contest and the Borders Slow Melody.
